PSV Eindhoven dropped points for the first time in the Europa League this season after a disappointing 0-0 draw against LASK Linz.

PSV went into the clash with six points from their opening two matches in the group stages, but had to do without top scorer Donyell Malen, who was unfit. Cody Gakpo started up front in his place.

The home side started very brightly and they were close to an opening goal on several occasions in the first fifteen minutes. However, goalkeeper Alexander Schlager and the woodwork denied PSV.

LASK Linz posed some threat but never really troubled Jeroen Zoet in the first half.

After the break, Steven Bergwijn was denied by Schlager before Daniel Schwaab hit the bar again with a header.

Before the end, Gakpo, Ritsu Doan and Mohamed Ihattaren all went close but a goal never came. There could have been another blow for Mark van Bommel too with Bergwijn clutching his hamstring towards the end of the game.

PSV move onto seven points in the group and remain top while Sporting have six points in second after they defeated Rosenborg. LASK Linz now have four points.

In two weeks time, PSV and LASK Linz meet again in Austria.
