According to De Telegraaf, PSV Eindhoven are hoping to pull off a shock deal and sign former Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld in the summer.

De Telegraaf is reporting that PSV held a phone call last week with Alderweireld’s agent Stijn Francis to sound out whether the centre-back would be interested in joining the club after this season.

PSV director Toon Gerbrands told the newspaper that they are aware of Alderweireld’s status, but added, “Just like our scouting has maybe a hundred players. Alderweireld is not in our plans at the moment.”

Alderweireld is still a key player with Tottenham Hotspur and has a contract until 2023. It is unclear whether the club would be willing to let the centre-back depart for a reasonable fee.

The move would also be a sensitive one with Alderweireld spending nine years playing for Ajax before departing the club for Atletico Madrid in 2013.
