Luuk de Jong scored the only goal of the game as PSV Eindhoven defeated 10-man Vitesse Arnhem 1-0 to preserve their perfect start in the Eredivisie.

After the cup loss to RKC Waalwijk in midweek, Mark van Bommel returned to his strongest PSV line-up with Steven Bergwijn back from injury.

The match was open at the beginning with both sides trading chances before Vitesse were dealt a major blow after 15 minutes. Hirving Lozano burst forward but was stopped by a late challenge by Danilho Doekhi, who saw a straight red card.

Despite the man advantage, PSV struggled to create clear-cut chances before the break. Max Clarke nearly netted an own-goal before Eduardo denied Bergwijn.

The second half remained a struggle for the home side until the 69th minute when Hirving Lozano’s cross was met by Luuk de Jong who tapped in the opening goal. That proved to be enough for PSV, who have their eleventh straight league win, while Vitesse sits 7th.
