PSV Eindhoven defeated NAC Breda 5-1 in the Philips Stadion to move ten points clear at the top of the Eredivisie.

PSV struggled for momentum in the early stages with efforts from Bart Ramselaar and Marco van Ginkel not providing too much trouble for Nigel Bertrams in the NAC goal. Luuk de Jong also sent a header wide before Jorrit Hendrix hit the bar.

It was set to be a frustrating half for the leaders but in the 37th minute Pablo Mari fouled De Jong in the box which led to Van Ginkel netting the opener from the penalty spot.

Just after the hour mark it was 2-0 with Daniel Schwaab’s header finding the net via a deflection. NAC gave themselves hope with Sadiq Umar capitalising on an error by Nicolas Isimat-Mirin to pull one back.

However, PSV ran away with the game in the last fifteen minutes. Firstly, De Jong hammered a shot past Bertrams from a corner before Steven Bergwijn burst into the box before his strike deflected into the net. Gaston Pereiro then came off the bench to complete the rout with six minutes left.

PSV are now ten points clear of Ajax, who face Groningen on Sunday while NAC remain just four points above the bottom three.
