The English paper states that PSV have made an offer for the midfielder after having an initial loan bid rejected by the Premier League club. They also claim that PSV face competition from the German international’s former club Schalke for the players signature.
Holtby only joined Spurs a year ago, but has failed to hold down a regular place in Tottenham’s first team, starting only six games in the Premier League this season.
With players such as former Ajax man Christian Eriksen ahead of the 23-year-old in the pecking order, it is believed the player could leave before the transfer window shuts next Friday.
However it is unlikely that the interest from PSV is true, with the club already packed full of options in the midfield areas, with the likes of Zakaria Bakkali, Luciano Narsingh, and Oscar Hiljemark all having trouble breaking into Phillip Cocu’s first eleven.
The players wages (around £3.5 million a year) would also be a problem for the Eindhoven club, who have recently spent a lot of money aquiring Bryan Ruiz from Fulham on loan.
Lewis Holtby may be on the move this week, but don’t expect that to be towards Eindhoven.
A loan deal for Holtby would suit Spurs best. I think the lad has a lot more in him for the future.
At the moment, he is like an excitable puppy ..very enthusiastic, full of energy and running, and very likeable. But, he is not yet clever enough to dictate things in midfield. He’s not a proper DM or holding player and he’s not a playmaker ..more of an eternally hopeful ‘chaser’ and ‘closing down’ sort of player. Perhaps by being on loan he’ll discover what he’s best at and come back to Spurs a more complete player (with none of his enthusiasm diminished). He’s only 22 so plenty of time.
LIKE TO CONGRATULATE CHRIS ON A GREAT SUMMING UP OF HOLTBY.AT TIMES HIS THRU BALLS SHOW HIS VISION.HE HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE HOPEFULLY AT SPURS.
