Nicolas Isimat-Mirin struck in the 93rd minute to give league leaders PSV Eindhoven a barely deserved 1-0 win at PEC Zwolle.

The game of the weekend in the Eredivisie saw free-scoring leaders PSV travel to third place PEC Zwolle, who hadn’t conceded in their last four league games.

The home side’s defence did well to frustrate PSV in the opening stages, with Ryan Thomas clearing a Derrick Luckassen header off the line, while Dirk Marcellis blocked a Hirving Lozano shot. At the other end, Younes Mokhtar fired over the bar and Erik Israelsson sent a header straight at Jeroen Zoet.

The home crowd was incensed five minutes before the break when Jorrit Hendrix was not shown a second yellow card for a lunge on Younes Namli. A red card looked inevitable and Phillip Cocu acted straight away and brought the midfielder off for Pablo Rosario.

PEC Zwolle took the game to PSV at the start of the second half with Phillipe Sandler forcing Zoet into a save from a free-kick before the centre-back sent a header over the bar. Mokhtar then saw an effort deflected wide as the PSV defence struggled to deal with the lively PEC Zwolle attack.

PSV could barely create anything and they were lucky that Mokhtar could only shank a shot wide from point-blank range, while a Bram van Polen’s effort was too weak to trouble Zoet.

The game was heading for a draw but in the 93rd minute, De Jong headed towards goal and Boer could only push the ball into the path of Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, who slotted in the winner.

PSV stay eight points clear of Ajax at the top while PEC Zwolle’s good run of form ends and they stay third.
