toivonen dWith the Swedish international in the final year of his contract, Cocu stated earlier in the summer that Toivonen had to either leave, or be pushed down to the reserves if he did not sign a new deal.

PSV then accepted an offer from Premier League club Norwich for the forward, but Toivonen rejected the deal, and although their was talk of other clubs being interested, he remains in Eindhoven.

However with no new deal on the cards, Toivonen has still kept his place among the first team, while making regular appearances from the bench.

Coach Phillip Cocu has now stated that they will hold talks with Toivonen, and is hopeful they can come to an agreement that will see him remain with the first team.

Cocu told Algameed Dagblad, “I myself have spoken with Ola and asked him to focus on PSV. Once Marcel Brands is back from vacation, we will also have a conversation with him. But I do not think it is implausible that Ola still remains with the first team.”

“Toivonen is not lost, and remains a good player. So as he is under contract he should qualify for selection. We will see what comes out of these talks.”
