The Dutch midfielder joined Betis in the summer, but injuries have limited his game time so far, with Van der Vaart only making seven league appearances.
The 32-year-old has spoken to NOS about his current situation in Spain. He said, “I do not believe that Real Betis have seen the best of me yet. I have played the last few cup games and came on as sub in the league and played well so the supporters are hopeful again” .
Rafael van der Vaart made his debut for Real Betis back in September against Deportivo La Coruna after sustaining an ankle injury in pre season. “In current day football I have the impression that you are written off quicker but the most important thing is that you perform well whether you are 40 or 32 “.
Van der Vaart also gave his opinion on the Seville derby between Sevilla and Betis “It’s an enormous game I have played big games for Ajax , Tottenham & Hamburger SV and been through a lot in my career But this game is something else’s. The manager Pepe Mel even said at the start of the season we are in two leagues La Liga but also one against Sevilla.”
Van der Vaart has also not given up hope of playing for the Dutch national team again in the future, “I still have the hunger like the kid that loves football.
“I also want to get the maximum out of my career and the national team is of course a part of that. When I played for the national team it was always special and if the opportunity comes up again in the future I would take it.
“Maybe it will never happen again. I will not lose any sleep over it but I am still a professional footballer and I would like to return to the national set up ” .
