Utrecht headed to Groningen on the back of three straight defeats including a shock loss to bottom side RKC Waalwijk at home last weekend.
However, Utrecht were the better side in the Euroborg and they created several chances to take the lead in the first-half. However, Sander van de Streek fired wide, while Gyrano Kerk’s effort was taken off the line.
Early in the second half, Kaj Sierhuis almost gave Groningen the lead but his strike was kept out by an excellent Maarten Paes save.
The game seemed to be heading for a 0-0 draw but with ten minutes to go, Kerk raced to the byline before pulling the ball back for Ramselaar to score the opener.
That proved to be the winner and it lifted Utrecht to 6th in the table while Groningen are 10th.
