ESPN is reporting that Real Betis are set to beat Ajax to the signature of Mexican winger Diego Lainez.

De Telegraaf stated on Thursday that Ajax had agreed a fee with Club America for the 19-year-old, but they faced competition from Real Betis.

It appears that Lainez has chosen a future at Real Betis with ESPN journalist Sergio Dipp reporting that he is expected to arrive in Spain this weekend. However, he adds that this is not official and that Ajax could still improve their offer and win the race.

Losing Lainez would be a big blow for Ajax, who were hoping that the forward would cover for David Neres, who is subject of a €43 million bid from Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande.
