Through their official website, Twente broke the news but added that Hake will go forward in a different role within the club. What that role will be is not yet known.
Director Jan van Halst told the club’s website, “The facts are: eight games, six points. Apart from the results, we see too little growth in the game and lack the conviction. Sunday, against Willem II, was in that respect.
“We are convinced that we will not be in trouble with this player group this season. Together with René, we decided that he will stop as a head coach and continue in another role at the club.
“It’s a tough decision, especially for Rene himself. The importance of FC Twente is paramount and he wants a turnaround.”
Hake took over the first team in August 2015. However, the club currently sit 15th in the Eredivisie.
