The first leg of the promotion playoff final between RKC Waalkwijk and Go Ahead Eagles ended goalless on Saturday evening.

RKC stunned NEC and then Excelsior to book their place in the final, while Go Ahead overcame Den Bosch.

The home side were better from the start but they could not find a way past Go Ahead goalkeeper Hobie Verhulst. Darren Maatsen had the ball in the net after 35 minutes but his goal was disallowed for offside.

The second half was a cagey affair with few chances as neither side wanted to take any risks. Kevin Vermeulen had the best chance for RKC but fired wide.

The game ended in a stalemate and the two teams will go again in Deventer on Tuesday for a place in the Eredivisie.
