Twente got on the front foot straight from the kick off, but could not make their early dominance count, with Luc Castaignos passing up their best chance in the opening half hour.
RKC, who’s coach Erwin Koeman was in the stands following the death of his father earlier in the week, started to come into the game as the first half wore on, and after 40 minutes they took the lead.
A swift counter attack was started by Evander Sno, and the midfielder then moved forward to get on the end of a cross, and slide a shot past Nick Marsman to give RKC a 1-0 half time lead.
In the second half Twente pushed for the equaliser, with Castaignos firing over the bar from close range, and Gutierrez sending a long range effort inches wide.
Aurelien Joachim squandered a fantastic chance to make it 2-0 to the home side, and minutes later Castaignos found the bottom corner with a great strike to bring Twente level on 80 minutes.
Twente could not find a winner in the final ten minutes, and they will go into the winter break at least 3rd in the table. RKC’s point moves them up one place into 14th.
