With the World Cup set to come to a close on Sunday, FIFA have nominated Arjen Robben for the Golden Ball Award, and Memphis Depay for Best Young Player Award.

As we approach the tail-end of what has been a memorable tournament, FIFA have announced their nominees for various awards, recognizing players that have preformed exceptionally throughout the World Cup.

Among the nominees for the adidas Golden Ball, awarded to the tournament’s best player, is Arjen Robben. The Groningen-native has had excellent World Cup, managing three goals and one assist so far in the tournament, with another game still to be played against Brazil in Saturday’s third-place play-off. His runs and passes have earned the praise of the FIFA Technical Study Group, commenting that “his incisive runs from deep have been a feature of the tournament.”

The Hyundai Young Player Award sees PSV wide-man Memphis Depay included in its shortlist. The 20 year-old broke several records during the tournament, becoming the youngest-ever Dutch goalscorer at a World Cup, as well as becoming the youngest-ever starting player for the Oranje. Depay managed two goals and one assist during the group stages.
