Arjen Robben made his return to the pitch in Groningen’s 1-1 draw with Almere City on Saturday.

After coming out of retirement, Robben has been working on his fitness and had not featured in pre-season until Groningen’s tie with Almere City on Saturday.

The experienced winger played 30 minutes before being substituted, and afterwards told FOX Sports, “I come to play matches and that’s what you do it for. I’m glad I was finally allowed to go out into the field again. I’ve come a long way, I’ve trained a lot and I’m not there yet, but I’m now taking good steps.”

Faris Hammouti scored the opener for Almere City before Ramon Pascal Lundqvist equalised for Groningen.
