Arjen Robben’s return for Groningen only lasted 30 minutes before the winger was taken off injured against PSV Eindhoven.

All eyes were on Robben as Groningen faced PSV on Sunday with the 36-year-old returning to the Eredivisie after a year out retired.

However, Robben’s debut was cut short after 29 minutes when the winger pulled up. He immediately signalled to the bench that his day was over and was replaced.

Robben immediately went straight down the tunnel and did not reappear on the bench for the rest of the game as PSV ran out 3-1 winners.

After the game, Groningen boss Danny Buijs told Fox Sports, “I know he left with groin complaints, but I don’t dare to say what it is exactly. I have not spoken to him, he went home disappointed.

“That is logical. That boy worked so hard towards this and left so much for it. If it ends like this today, it will be very frustrating for him.”
