Arjen Robben is aiming to be back on the pitch again as soon as possible after an injury ruined his Groningen comeback on Sunday.

Robben came out of retirement to play for Groningen this season and started the season opener against PSV. However, he had to be substituted after only 30 minutes due to a groin injury.

The winger went straight down the tunnel and went home, leading to some speculation that he could be forced to retire once again.

Speaking to de Volkskrant, Robben said he is not giving up, “This was the worst conceivable scenario that I had not taken into account for a while.

“Now it is important not to languish in a corner, but to laugh with some self-mockery and to move on with a positive feeling. You are not rid of me yet.

“Giving up is not in my dictionary.”

Robben will have a scan on Tuesday which will determine the damage to his groin.
