Maaskant has signed a contract until the end of the season and he stated that he feels that the manager role will be an interim position for him.
Maaskant said, ”This is an interim position for me until the end of the season. In recent years I have invested a lot of time in the business world and respective policies and I want to keep doing that in the future.
”I hope that together with Go Ahead Eagles that we can stay in contention to stay up until the last day of the season and then go on to avoid relegation. If we can achieve that then it will be a case of job done for me.
”I was asked to take the reigns here and I am more than happy to do it. I know that it will not be easy but I m looking forward to the challenge.
”In reality a club such as Go Ahead Eagles know that they will be battling relegation from the Eredivisie before hand and that has proved to be the case. I know that my predecessors have done everything is their power to get the team as high up the league as possible. The ran is not yet run in the Eredivisie and our objective is to stay up.
”On Monday I will meet with the squad for the first time. I am also looking forward to the forthcoming fixtures against amongst others the teams fighting for the title and we will try to get something out of all the remaining games will play.
Maaskant has also managed Willem II , FC Groningen, Wisla Krakow where he won the Polish league in season 2010/2011 and most recently NAC Breda.
