ADO Den Haag went into the game rooted to the bottom of the Eredivisie, with no win in three games, while Roda JC sat two places ahead, with three defeats in a row.
The opening stages were cagey in poor conditions, with the rain and wind making the game difficult for the players. The best chance of the first half fell to the visitors, but Kees Luijckx made a crucial block to deny Mathias Gehrt.
However shortly after the break ADO Den Haag had the lead with Mitchell Schet firing past Filip Kurto after the goalkeeper failed to claim the ball from Wildschut.
Roda JC’s best chance to equalise fell to Wiljan Pluim in injury time, but the striker could not finish with a free header from a few yards out.
The loss heaps the pressure on new Roda coach Jon Dahl Tomasson, who after a promising start, now has a real job on his hands to prevent the club from being relegated. ADO Den Haag however will now look to use this victory as a springboard to progress up the table and away from trouble.
