riedewaldThe champions started the game well, and should have been ahead after 12 minutes, but Kolbeinn Sigthorsson wasted a great opportunity.

Despite Ajax’s dominance it was Roda JC who took the lead just after the half hour mark as Henk Dijkhuizen rose high to power a header into the head.

The second half saw Ajax create chance after chance but Sigthorsson, Viktor Fischer, and Davy Klaassen all missed the target.

Then with two minutes left substitute left back Jairo Riedewald, who was making his debut, slid the ball into the net following a Danny Hoesen cutback.

Amazingly Riedewald then netted the winner in the 92nd minute, as he got on the end of Joel Veltman’s header to steer the ball in from close range.

A memorable debut for the 17-year-old who’s two goals see Ajax go into the winter break top of the table due to their superior goal difference over Vitesse. Roda JC will be hurt by the late loss which sees them stay just one place above the drop zones in 15th.
