Twente had the first real chance of the game midway through the first half, when Luc Castaignos had a clear view of goal, after Filip Kurto ran out to meet him, but the strikers shot was cleared of the line.
Roda JC took control as the half went on, and deservedly took the lead after 39 minutes when Ard van Peppen’s cross was dived onto by Guus Hupperts at the back post, and his header flew into the net.
Quincy Promes had a great chance to equalise straight away, but after running onto Youness Mokhtar’s flicked header, his shot was stopped brilliantly by the leg of Kurto.
In the second half, Twente put Roda under immense pressure, but it took until the 69th minute for the away side to finally equalise. Mokhtar was played in down the left, and his cross was put in from close range by Castaignos.
Twente then took the lead with ten minutes to go with a lucky goal. Promes deflected the ball into the net after a Rosales cross.
Wiljan Pluim should have equalised soon after but his shot into the ground went inches over the bar, while Shadrach Eghan should have sealed Twente’s win but couldn’t beat Kurto one on one.
In the 3rd minute of injury time, Mark-jan Fledderus beat Nick Marsman with a low drive, but it came back of the post, with Twente holding on for the win.
The win moves Twente temporarily up to 1st until Vitesse, AZ and Ajax play on Sunday, while Roda JC drop one place to 12th.
