Last season Roda JC triumphed 3-1 in Eindhoven, and the 2nd placed Eerste Divisie side quickly took the lead on Tuesday evening as PSV’s defence allowed Tom van Hyfte time in the box to hammer the ball into the top corner.
PSV looked uninterested but they levelled on 17 minutes when Jurgen Locadia’s ball to the back post was slotted into the net by Luuk de Jong.
The goal failed to kick PSV into life and although they controlled possession no real chances were created and Roda JC retook the lead on 74 minutes when after a swift move around the box Edwin Gyasi fired past Remko Pasveer.
PSV seemed to spare their blushes when De Jong forced the game into extra time with eight minutes left, but Hicham Faik sealed the host’s progress with a brilliantly placed free kick into the top corner.
PSV now join Ajax and Feyenoord out of the cup while Roda JC will face Excelsior in the Quarter finals.
