Roda JC have climbed off the bottom of the Eredivisie table after defeating NAC Breda 1-0.

The home side went into the game as favourite’s after posting two wins in a row against ADO Den Haag and Feyenoord. They started brightly against Roda JC with Thierry Ambrose heading at Hidde Jurjus before Rai Vloet sent a good chance wide.

On 37 minutes, Roda JC took the lead against the run of play with Donis Avdijaj firing an excellent strike past Nigel Bertrams. Early in the second half it was nearly 2-0 but Simon Gustafson’s strike came back off the post.

NAC then went looking for the equaliser but Umar Sadiq saw an effort come back off the woodwork before being denied by Jurjus.

The visitors held on to claim a critical three points which move them above FC Twente into 17th. NAC remain 15th.
