Volendam were reluctant to see their star player leave, but Roda JC made them an offer they couldn’t refuse and Van Velzen has now joined the Kerkrade side on a two-and-a-half year deal.
Roda technical director Ton Caanen said, “There were several clubs that were interested in him and we are pleased that he has chosen us. Gyliano is a dangerous winger and one of the revelations in the Jupiler League this season.
Van Velzen started his career in the youth team at Ajax but left for Manchester United in 2010. The winger eventually returned to the Netherlands with Utrecht before joining Volendam in 2015.
He becomes Roda JC’s seventh signing of January, joining fellow new recruits Thanasios Papazoglou, Bryan Verboom, Beni Badibanga, Ognjen Gnjatic, Stevan Savic and Mohamed El Makrini.
