After only two goals in 13 league games, Reza Ghoochannejhad was dropped in favour of Henk Veerman as Heerenveen went looking for their first win in three games.
Michael Vlap got the first big chance of the game but the youngster couldn’t convert from close range, while at the other end Dani Schahin blew an opportunity for the hosts.
Heerenveen remained the stronger side and eventually took the lead on the hour mark with Veerman combining with Vlap before beautifully firing into the net.
The lead only lasted ten minutes before Schahin headed in Adil Auassar’s free-kick to level for Roda JC. The game was heading for a draw but in the 87th minute, Doke Schmidt dallied on the ball which allowed Livio Milts to snatch it and find the net with a deflected strike.
The win isn’t enough to lift Roda JC off the bottom but they move level on points with Twente. Heerenveen sit 8th.
