Van der Wiel has one year left on his contract in Paris and is widely expected to move this summer, with Manchester United reportedly interested. The Premier League club missed out on Barcelona’s Dani Alves, who signed a new deal with Barcelona today, and may now turn their attention to the former Ajax star.
However according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma are also keen on the 27-year-old with the clubs director Walter Sabatini meeting with Van der Wiel’s agent Mino Raiola in Milan to talk about a deal.
Roma are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the Champions League next season and see Van der Wiel as an ideal competitor to their two current right backs Vasilis Torosidis and Maicon.
