The 25-year-old left Heerenveen to join Atalanta in the summer for the small fee of €750,000 and has since made a big impression in his 32 appearances for the Italian club.
De Roon’s work rate and dominance in the centre of midfielder have made him a fan favourite in Italy and a big money move this summer now seems inevitable.
La Gazetta dello Sport are reporting that both Napoli and Roma have been so impressed with De Roon that they are ready to start a bidding war for the Dutchman. Both clubs have already made contact with Atalanta over his availability.
