Dutch winger Royston Drenthe has joined middle eastern side Baniyas SC on a one-year-deal.

drenthe readThe 28-year-old was a free agent after leaving Turkish side Kayseri Erciyesspor, and after talks with PEC Zwolle broke through the winger has decided to move to the United Arab Emirates with Baniyas.

Drenthe was seen as one of Netherlands biggest prospects after breaking into the Feyenoord first team in 2005, but after moving to Real Madrid in 2007, his career has started on a downward path.

Spells with clubs such as Everton, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday have failed to reignite Drenthe’s career, and he now heads to the middle east after a short period in Turkey.
