Rubin Kazan have been in talks with PSV over the past few weeks, but the deal has now been completed, with Matavz free to talk to the Russian side.
PSV director Marcel Brands confirmed the transfer on the official club website, “Tim indicated to both me and coach Phillip Cocu that he really wanted this transfer. Despite the fact that Phillip would rather see the striker leave in the summer, he is confident that with Luciano Narsingh, Bryan Ruiz, Jürgen Locadia, Memphis Depay, Florian Jozefzoon and Zakaria Bakkali, PSV have sufficient attackers to allow this.”
Matavz joined PSV from Groningen in 2011, and netted 24 times in 66 games for the club, but has fallen out of the first team this season due to injury and the emergence of youngster Jurgen Locadia.
The Slovenian international will now travel to Russia to replace Solomon Rondon, who Rubin sold to rivals Zenit st Petersburg last month. The fee is estimated to be around €8 million.
