Ajax crushed Excelsior 7-1 in Rotterdam on Sunday to register their sixth league victory in a row.

Following the draw at Benfica in midweek, Erik ten Hag made one change with Kasper Dolberg coming back into the attack in place of David Neres.

Excelsior made a good start to the tie and went close through Ryan Koolwijk and Elías Már Ómarsson but in the 31st minute, Ajax led. Donny van de Beek raced onto a Dusan Tadic pass before slotting past Sonny Stevens. Just before the break, it was 2-0 with Lasse Schone curling an excellent free-kick into the top corner.

Rasmus Kristensen replaced Noussair Mazraoui at the break and the Dane made an instant impact, setting up van de Beek with a cross to net his second of the game. Ali Messaoud pulled one back for Excelsior following a throw-in which left the midfielder free in the box. However, that would prove to be nothing but a consolation as Ajax run riot in the last half-hour.

Dolberg netted the fourth after a lovely backheel by van de Beek before Jerdy Schouten headed into his own net following a Tadic cross. Hakim Ziyech found the far corner with a strike to make it 6-1 before the Moroccan set up Neres to complete the scoring late on.

The victory keeps Ajax within five points of PSV, while Excelsior are 14th.
