Anderlecht have confirmed Fred Rutten as their new head coach on a deal until the summer of 2020.

The Belgian side have been looking for the successor to Hein Vanhaezebrouck for weeks and had been linked with Phillip Cocu and Martin Jol.

However, Fred Rutten has now been confirmed as the new head coach on a one-and-a-half year deal.

Anderlecht Technical director Frank Arnesen told the clubs website, “We are going to work together with Rutten to achieve great successes this and next season.”

Rutten, who has previously coached FC Twente, Schalke 04, PSV, Vitesse, Feyenoord, Al-Shabab and Maccabi Haifa, was recently acting as an adviser to FC Twente. He takes over an Anderlecht side sitting in fifth place.
