Schalke’s Sporting Executive Horst Heldt told Bild, “Yes, we had good talks. Both sides have signalled their interest to continue the partnership.”

The Bundesliga club are believed to have offered the 31-year-old a new two-year deal up until 2017 with a pay rise above his current wage of €6.7 million a year. It remains to be seen whether Huntelaar accepts the deal with a number of English clubs, including Liverpool and Tottenham, said to be interested in signing him this January.

Huntelaar has been with Schalke since joining from AC Milan 2010, making 149 appearances and scoring an impressive 97 goals.
