The German was named as the KNVB’s top target this weekend by De Telegraaf, but BILD are claiming that Schmidt isn’t interested.

The 50-year-old, who was sacked as head coach of Bayer Leverkusen earlier this season, is reportedly focused on a new position in club football and won’t accept an international job.

The KNVB must now look elsewhere if the news is true. Ruud Gullit and Henk ten Cate are also believed to be in the running but have both stated they have not had contact with the federation.

A replacement for Danny Blind is wanted by the KNVB by the time Netherlands face Morocco at the end of May.
