Feyenoord gave Dick Advocaat a win on his birthday as they overcame ADO Den Haag 4-2 in an entertaining clash in De Kuip.

Dick Advocaat, celebrating his 73rd birthday, was dealt a blow in the warm-up as Nicolai Jorgensen was injured and in came Robert Bozenik. Mark Diemers was also replaced by Jens Toornstra.

ADO Den Haag also made changes with Kees de Boer and Jonas Arweieler starting. The latter stunned De Kuip by firing ADO Den Haag ahead in the 11th minute after Lutsharel Geertruida failed to clear a ball over the top.

Justin Bijlow was the busier goalkeeper but in the 27th minute, Feyenoord levelled as Geertruida headed in a corner.

Advocaat was not happy with what he saw from his side and made a double change at the break. Bryan Linssen and Orkun Kokcu were replaced by Luciano Narsingh and Jaoa Carlos Teixeira.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Feyenoord had the lead in spectacular fashion as Marcos Senesi fired an overhead kick past Luuk Koopmans.

However, ADO didn’t give up and in the 67th minute, Bijlow brought down Arweieler to give the visitors a penalty. Arweieler stepped up and saw his penalty saved, but VAR noticed Bijlow stepping off his line, so it was retaken and this time Shaquille Pinas netted to make it 2-2.

Two minutes later, Narsingh restored the lead for Feyenoord with a low strike from inside the box. Feyenoord then sealed the victory with a Steven Berghuis penalty after a handball was given against Pinas.

Feyenoord moves onto seven points for the season, while ADO Den Haag remain pointless and second bottom.
