The 22-year-old was advised to remain at Groningen by coach Ernest Faber, but has ignored that advice to sign a five-year contract in Denmark. The fee paid for the Swede is unknown.
Brondby technical director Troels Bech told the club’s website, “Simon is undoubtedly a great talent with a beautiful future for himself.
“There are many young players who made clear steps forward at our club and Simon thinks he can do that too. There was a lot of interest for Simon and the fact that he chose a long contract with our club says much about his trust in our project.”
Tibbling signed for FC Groningen in January 2015 and made a total of 89 appearances for the club scoring two goals. He was also part of the FC Groningen side that won the 2015 KNVB Cup where they defeated PEC Zwolle 2-0 in De Kuip in Rotterdam. He was voted player of the season in 2015/2016 by the FC Groningen supporters.
Tibbling previously played for Djurgardens in his native Sweden.
