After the 1-1 draw in Alkmaar last week, AZ headed to Austria knowing they had a big task on their hands. Arne Slot was able to recall Fredrik Midtso into the midfield after he missed the first-leg.
AZ matched the hosts in the opening half-hour with only a poor pass from Oussama Idrissi preventing a certain goal for Calvin Stengs. Dani de Wit also went close, while at the other end, Marco Bizot was called into action to deny Dominik Frieser.
However, just before the break, LASK Linz delivered a blow to AZ. Idrissi was penalised for a clumsy foul after Teun Koopmeiners gave the ball away and Raguz made it 1-0 from the penalty spot.
Idrissi almost equalised immediately in the second half but his shot went wide. LASK Linz punished that miss as Raguz doubled the lead in the 50th minute after some poor defending.
AZ had chances to get back into the game but Myron Boadu and Calvin Steng’s both had poor evenings and even a late red for Phillip Wiesinger could not help start a comeback.
AZ’s European campaign is now over for the season and they must now recover for the clash against Ajax on Sunday.
