Arne Slot has spoken after being confirmed as the new Feyenoord head coach after this season.

Feyenoord confirmed on Tuesday that Slot will take over from the retiring Dick Advocaat in the summer.

Speaking to the club website, Slot said, ‘I have enjoyed working at AZ for three and a half years and I am grateful to the club and the players for the development that I have gone through as a trainer. This step to Feyenoord is a very nice next step in my career. When a top club like Feyenoord comes forward, you are not only honoured but also proud to be able to take this step.”

Speaking with Voetbal International, Slot added, “The past week has once again shown how great the allure and impact of a club like Feyenoord is.”

Slot does not want to be a distraction for Advocaat this season, “I also want to prevent it from being about me at all times, because Feyenoord still has a lot to play for this season. I look with great appreciation at the results and the intransigence of Dick Advocaat’s Feyenoord. That’s why I don’t think it’s proper to talk to the media about my appointment as head coach of Feyenoord at the moment.”

Slot will be officially presented in the summer.
