Arne Slot will not guarantee that Teun Koopmeiners will only play in midfield next season should he remain at AZ Alkmaar.

The AZ captain has recently stated that he prefers to play in the midfield, but with the club lacking in centre-back options, Slot is unable to guarantee that.

He told Voetbal International, “Teun knows very well that he plays where I put him. That has been the case for a year and it will be no different next season. We haven’t talked about it yet, there are still too many uncertainties.”

Slot is hoping to sign a new centre-back this summer, “The best scenario is that we attract a new left-back central defender. That would be a bonus. But we could also accommodate the departure of Stijn (Wuytens) Very well internally. After Teun had played as Ajax’s left central defender in the Arena, he was called up to the Dutch national team.”

AZ are interested in Volendam centre-back Micky van de Ven but face competition from sides around Europe. The defender would also not be cheap with Volendam looking for a good fee.

Koopmeiners could depart AZ this summer with several English clubs, including Everton, following the midfielder.
