Wesley Sneijder has announced his retirement from football.

Sneijder was most recently active at Al-Gharafa in Qatar but he has now decided to hang up his boots at the age of 35.

Sneijder has announced on Utrecht TV that he has joined the club’s business sector. He said, “I have a lot of love for this city. Now that I’ve quit playing, I want a nice place to share my experiences,”

The midfielder started his career with Ajax before spells with Real Madrid, Internazionale, Galatasaray and OGC Nice before he joined Al-Gharafa. He enjoyed the best year of his career in 2010 with Inter, where he helped the club win the treble.

Sneijder made 134 appearances for Netherlands, making him the countries record cap holder.
