After a turbulent and dramatic transfer period so far, Wesley Sneijder is no longer a Galatasaray player.

Sneijder’s exit from Galatasaray seemed inevitable a few weeks ago when new Galatasaray boss Igor Tudor publicly stated there was no need for a number 10 in his new system. Sampdoria and Los Angeles FC have been heavily linked with the Dutch international since then. However, a few days ago Sneijder said that he would stay in Istanbul, and Galatasaray promoted his joining training on twitter.

Now, it has officially been announced his contract has been terminated by mutual consent, and he’ll be on the lookout for a new club. Despite his age, clubs that would have previously discounted him based on a high transfer fee may join the race to get him for free. His agent has said he would like to join Sampdoria, so that seems his most likely destination. Given LA FC won’t start in the MLS until next season, it seems unlikely they’ll acquire him without a loan deal first being finalised.

Sneijder has also been linked with a move to the Russian Premier League, but his wife is said to be unhappy about that prospect. A return to the Netherlands could also be on the cards.

Stay tuned, as news about his next club is likely due soon!
