Sneijder announced his international retirement in early March after holding talks with Ronald Koeman, but was not given a farewell during the friendlies with England and Portugal.
However, the KNVB have now confirmed that Sneijder’s international career will be honoured when Peru visit Amsterdam on the 6th of September. Three days later, Netherlands face France in the UEFA Nations League.
Sneijder said in a statement on the KNVB website, “I am very happy with what is going to happen now. This is the farewell as I dreamed it, similar to what Lukas Podolski did to the Germans. Simply: saying goodbye in a match, in a team that is dear to me and in a place that is dear to me. I can hardly wait until September 6th.”
The friendly will be Sneijder’s 134th and final international cap.
Been in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, i could see how passionate Dutch folks are about soccer, playing in extreme wheather until midnight o later, it’ll be a real honour for peru to be there in your farewell match Wes.
thank you and looking forward September 6th
