The Oranje captain failed to return to the pitch after half time in the 4-1 win over Belarus and coach Danny Blind confirmed in his post match press conference that the midfielder had suffered a hamstring injury.
Blind then stated the midfielder will now miss the crucial qualifier with France on Monday, “I think the chance that Sneijder is there on Monday is very, very small. We are going to discuss tonight if we need anyone I have the opportunities in the selection to fill it with Davy Klaassen and Siem de Jong, but I can call someone I think deserves it. ”
The possible replacement is not yet known but Leroy Fer and Jens Toornstra are being mentioned in the press.
I was impressed by Proper, i saw a more balanced midfield with Proper, against france i would start with Leroy Fer, he is a tougher tackler and physically stronger. The french team is based on pogba’s game, so i would set Fer to mark pogba. Fer’s absence is one of the many question marks about Blind’s coaching abilities!
This I agree.
