PSV Eindhoven moved into second place after a 2-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam.

Phillip Cocu decided to make changes from his regular PSV line-up for the trip to Rotterdam with Jurgen Locadia and Jorrit Hendrix coming in for Andres Guardado and Gaston Pereiro.

The changes worked a treat as PSV took the lead on 21 minutes through Locadia, who controlled a corner on the edge of the box before smashing a shot past Ryan Korsmit. It was the attackers first goal of the season.

PSV nearly gifted Sparta the equaliser when Jeroen Zoet came racing out of his goal and failed to clear leaving Jerson Cabral with a chance at an empty net, but the attacker fired wide. Minutes later, PSV made it 2-0 with Marco van Ginkel latching onto an error from Rick van Drongelen before beating Korsmit and firing into an empty goal.

In the second half, Sparta had Korsmit to thank for keeping the score down with the goalkeeper saving from Locadia twice, while also denying Jetro Willems.

The win moves PSV above Ajax in the table but the Eindhoven side will be cheering on the Amsterdammers tomorrow as they host league leaders Feyenoord. Sparta remain 14th.
