Sparta Rotterdam secured a much-needed 3-1 win over Heracles to move them away from the relegation zone.

After the 5-0 defeat at Vitesse Arnhem last weekend, Alex Pastoor decided to ring the changes with Martin Pusic preferred to Matthias Pogba up front.

The hosts began brightly and after 29 minutes they led with Ryan Sanusi’s shot deflected off Justin Hoogma and beating Bram Castro. Moments later Heracles had the chance to equalise when they were awarded a penalty after Tom Breukers was fouled, but Samuel Armenteros weak spot-kick was saved by Ryan Korsmit.

Eight minutes into the second half it was 2-0 with a free kick reaching Pusic at the back post and the striker headed in his first Eredivisie goal. The Austrian then sealed the win twenty minutes later with another close range header.

Joel Pelupessy pulled one back for Heracles with a stunning strike but that proved to be just a consolation. The victory moves Sparta above NEC into 12th spot while Heracles are two spots and three points ahead of them.
