Lennart Thy netted the only goal as Sparta Rotterdam came away from Limburg with a 1-0 win over Fortuna Sittard.

Fortuna Sittard went into the game full of confidence having picked up 13 points from their last five games, while Sparta were looking to bounce back from their loss against Feyenoord.

The best chances of the first-half fell to Sparta Rotterdam but Yanick van Osch saved from Deroy Duarte, while Mario Engels missed the target from a good position.

Just after the hour, the deadlock was broken by Lennart Thy who put a controlled finish into the net.

Lisandro Semedo came closest to an equalise but his shot was taken off the line as Sparta held on for the three points.

The win means Sparta climb to eighth while Fortuna Sittard are 13th.
