bogers aSparta currently sit third in the Eerste Divisie, and have already reached the end of season play-offs after wining one of the period championships. However the disappointing 1-0 defeat to Jong Twente on Saturday proved to be the last straw for the clubs directors.

Bogers took over the club in the summer as Henk ten Cate left after just missing out on promotion in a play-off defeat to Roda JC.

Sparta general manager Wiljan Vloet stated after the sacking that the lack of passion shown by Sparta in recent weeks was behind Bogers dismissal.

He said, “Bogers actually began with a 1-0 deficit to a very difficult task in Sparta. The club had made a deep wound after missing out on the so ardently desired promotion in the final minutes of the playoffs.”

“Partly because there was a clear mandate to the head coach to make the football club passionate again”

“The result is that even though we reached the playoffs it is not felt. As a result unfortunately we do not have the expectation that under the leadership of Bogers short-term change will come here.”

Bogers is the thirteenth coach of the club in 10 years, with assistant coach Arjan van der Laan set to take over first team duties until the winter break.
