A square where Abdelhak Nouri grew up in Amsterdam will be renamed after the youngster, who recently suffered permanent brain damage.

AT5 reported the news on Monday evening that a square in Geuzenveld, where Nouri grew up and regularly played football as a child will be renamed the A. Nouri plein.

The news comes just over a week since Nouri collapsed during Ajax’s friendly with Werder Bremen and was then confirmed to have suffered permanent and severe brain damage. The 20-year-old is currently at the AMC hospital in Amsterdam but his chances of a recovery are rated as null.

The naming of the square is not the only tribute to Nouri. In Amsterdam-Noord, a large graffiti tribute was revealed over the weekend.
