The Dutch international had been linked with a move away from Rome this summer, with Inter Milan reportedly lining up a big money move.

However, Strootman has now committed his long-term future to Roma by signing a new five-year-deal which binds the midfielder to the club until 2022.

“This extension is special for me,” Strootman told the official Roma website. “I want to win something here and will do everything to be successful. Roma has continually supported me during my injury, so I’d like to stay here. ”

Strootman has been with Roma since signing from PSV in 2013.
