The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to join former national team coach Louis van Gaal at Manchester United this month after returning from a long term injury.
However speaking to Sky Italia Strootman said he would not speak about other clubs as it would be “disrespectful” to Roma, who he wants to help challenge for the Serie A title.
Strootman said, “I want to play more, and return to my best level.”
“I’ve signed up for five years, but so far I’ve only been playing for six or seven months. I want to play and help the team. That’s important to me.
“If I spoke about other clubs that would be disrespectful, and I don’t want to do that.”
The midfielder went on to criticise his own performances since returning from injury, but admitted he is nearly back to full fitness, “I worked for eight months to come back. I played against Sassuolo and I wasn’t good, then I came on against [CSKA] Moscow and wasn’t right.”
“After the winter break I’ve been training with more confidence, I feel better physically and I’m returning to 100 per cent.
“I’m not there yet, but I’m coming back.”
