The 24-year-old is expected to leave PSV Eindhoven this summer after expressing his desire for a new adventure abroad. However with Wijnaldum under contract until 2018, PSV will not allow their captain to leave on the cheap and have set an asking price between €15-20 million.
Russian champions Zenit st Petersburg lodged a £10 million bid last week, but that was swiftly rejected by PSV. Now Premier League club Sunderland have entered the race with an offer in excess of £11 million (around €15.4m) according to the Guardian.
It is not known whether this offer will be accepted by PSV, or if Wijnaldum would be interest in a move to Sunderland.
French clubs Marseille and Monaco are also interested in Wijnaldum, along with Sunderland’s rivals Newcastle United. Last year Wijnaldum rejected a move to PSG.
